Now, the reviews are coming out from outlets that have had a chance to give the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 a spin. While Mashable hasn't tested the GPU out ourselves, our sibling publication PC Mag did! And we poured through reviews from multiple other outlets as well. Mashable found that each outlet had plenty to say about the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090. Morning after pill sales boom in days leading up to inauguration

Women's telehealth company Wisp has seen a 233 percent increase in emergency contraception (EC, also called the "morning after pill") sales in the days leading up to Trump's inauguration . The spike occurred the week of Jan.13 to Jan. 20, and on Inauguration Day itself (1/20) there was a 57 percent increase in orders of EC six-packs on Wisp . SEE ALSO: Did Trump's executive order just make everyone in the U.S. female? This news comes after  reproductiverights.gov   shut down following the inauguration , as CBS News and others reported. It is part of a trend that includes government pages on LGBTQ rights and the Office of Gun Violence Protection going dark as well. The government reproductive rights site included information on ECs, according to an archived screenshot, as well as birth control and abortion pills. The site was launched in 2022 following the overturning of Roe v. Wade , according to The Verge. Since then, conservatives have threatened b...

Comcast’s sports and news streaming bundle starts at $70 monthly

A week after DirecTV launched its first sports-only streaming package , Comcast unveiled a similar offering that adds news to the mix. The Xfinity Sports & News TV package combines over 50 broadcast, cable news and sports channels with Peacock , DVR storage and more. Although Xfinity Sports & News is being widely marketed and reported as costing $70 monthly, there’s some extensive fine print attached. (With Comcast?? Can’t be.) First, that price only applies to Xfinity Internet or Xfinity TV customers (new or existing). You’ll pay at least $90 monthly if you want to stick with home internet from elsewhere. On top of that, your monthly price goes up by $10 without automatic billing through a bank account. Autopay with a credit or debit card adds an extra $8. So, it can be as little as $70 or as much as $100 per month. Plus tax. This is only a good deal compared to YouTube TV (which recently raised prices again ) or Hulu + Live TV if you’re already an Xfinity Internet cust...

Meta is reportedly paying influencers big bucks to post on Reels before TikTok

Meta is reportedly on its hands and knees, begging influencers to use Instagram instead of TikTok . According to a  new report from The Information , Instagram is offering creators monthly bonuses ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 for posting their videos on Instagram Reels before posting them on other platforms, including TikTok. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mashable. It's unclear what kind of a lasting impact this will have on creators. Meta has attempted to draw creators onto its platform with promises of financial gains before, but those incentives were always temporary. For instance, the platform got rid of its Reels Play bonus program , a similar program to TikTok's Creator Fund , that left creators looking for new ways to find the additional $500-$1,000 they had counted on each month. This newly reported bribe or, whoops, sorry, "incentive" doesn't seem to promise longevity, either. SEE ALSO: As TikTok faces a ban, cre...

Bitcoin hits all-time high on Inauguration Day

Bitcoin surged to an all-time high on Monday, hours before Donald Trump took office as President of the United States. Over the course of Monday, Bitcoin spiked to $109,350 before dipping below $105,000. President Trump has talked about cryptocurrency on numerous occasions in the leadup to taking office again. Bitcoin started gaining steam over the week before the inauguration, with speculation rising that Trump would announce a Bitcoin-related executive order. According to reports , Trump is planning on reducing regulations around cryptocurrency, something that could spur adoption. The spike in Bitcoin price also happened after the launch of two new meme coins by the Trumps – simply named $TRUMP and $MELANIA. Samsung Galaxy AI features leak ahead of Unpacked 2025

A new leak has seemingly revealed the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S25 will see a major Galaxy AI upgrade. The new leak comes from veteran smartphone leaker Evan Blass, who published what seems to be a marketing video showing off some of the new features coming to Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite of features. These features are expected to launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy S25 series , which will likely be unveiled at Samsung’s latest Galaxy Unpacked event , set to take place on Wednesday, January 22.  Galaxy AI brings agentic AI features to the Galaxy S25 series The leaked video starts with a user being woken up by the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s alarm, after which a feature called Insights delivers information like the weather, sleep scores, and other data that the user might want to see when they first wake – all in a single scrollable screen. The Trump Administration is no longer letting asylum seekers make appointments with the CBP One app

As part of sweeping plans to change immigration in the United States, the Trump Administration has removed functionality from the CBP One app, a US Customs and Border Protection app used by asylum seekers to pursue legal admission into the US along the southwest border. As of January 20, 2025 the app can longer be used to schedule an appointment for admission, and any existing appointments have been cancelled, according to the CBP website . The CBP One app was introduced in 2020, and was expanded into a tool for asylum seekers in 2023, quickly becoming the only way migrants could "preschedule appointments for processing and maintain guaranteed asylum eligibility," according to the American Immigration Council . The app "allowed 1,450 migrants a day" to schedule an appointment for admission, The New York Times writes , and has helped more than 900,000 people to enter the country since it was launched in 2023 through the end of 2024. No warning was given to asylu...

Bluesky's 2024 moderation report shows how quickly harmful content grew as new users flocked in

Bluesky experienced explosive growth last year, particularly toward the end , necessitating that the platform ramp up its moderation efforts. In its recently released moderation report for 2024, Bluesky said it grew by about 23 million users, jumping from 2.9 million users to nearly 26 million. And, its moderators received 17 times the number of user reports they got in 2023 — 6.48 million in 2024 compared to 358,000 the previous year.  The bulk of these reports were related to “harassment, trolling or intolerance,” spam and misleading content (including impersonation and misinformation). The presence of accounts posing as other people has been a known issue in the wake of Bluesky’s popularity spike, and the platform updated its impersonation policy in November with a “more aggressive” approach in an attempt to crack down on it. At the time, it said it had quadrupled its moderation team. The new report says Bluesky’s moderation team has grown to about 100, and hiring is ongoing...

Instagram is rushing out a new video editing app that sure sounds a lot like CapCut

Instagram head Adam Mosseri took to Threads on Sunday with yet another announcement this weekend , the timing of which surely had nothing at all to do with TikTok and other ByteDance-owned apps (briefly) going dark : a new, free video-editing app called Edits is on the way. Instagram's Edits will cater to people who edit videos on their phone, and will offer “a full suite of creative tools.” That includes higher-quality recordings, shareable drafts, trending audio, insights about your Reels’ performance and an “inspiration tab,” on top of the usual editing tools.  If all that reminds you of CapCut, TikTok’s sister app for video editing, you’re not alone. In response to the immediate comparisons, Mosseri called Edits “CapCut, but more for creators than casual video makers.” Edits isn’t available yet, but you can pre-order it on the App Store if you’re an iOS user and Mosseri says an Android version is “coming soon.” While he puts the release sometime in February, the App Sto...
