Apple patches two security vulnerabilities on iPhone, iPad and Mac

Apple pushed updates to iOS, iPadOS and macOS software today to patch two zero-day security vulnerabilities. The company suggested the bugs had been actively deployed in the wild. “Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.1,” the company wrote about both flaws in its security reports . Software updates plugging the holes are now available for the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Researcher Clément Lecigne of Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG) is credited with discovering and reporting both exploits. As Bleeping Computer notes , the team at Google TAG often finds and exposes zero-day bugs against high-risk individuals, like politicians, journalists and dissidents. Apple didn’t reveal specifics about the nature of any attacks using the flaws. The two security flaws affected WebKit , Apple’s open-source browser framework powering Safari. In Apple’s description of the first bug, it said, “Processing web content may disclose sen

ChatGPT revealed personal data and verbatim text to researchers

A team of researchers found it shockingly easy to extract personal information and verbatim training data from ChatGPT . "It's wild to us that our attack works and should’ve, would’ve, could’ve been found earlier," said the authors introducing their research paper, which was published on Nov. 28. First picked up by 404 Media , the experiment was performed by researchers from Google DeepMind, University of Washington, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of California Berkeley, and ETH Zurich to test how easily data could be extracted from ChatGPT and other large language models. The researchers disclosed their findings to OpenAI on Aug. 30, and the issue has since been addressed by the ChatGPT-maker. But the vulnerability points out the need for rigorous testing. "Our paper helps to warn practitioners that they should not train and deploy LL

Tesla's long-awaited Cybertruck will start at $60,990 before rebates

After years of production delays, Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to a dimly-lit stage on Thursday to hand-deliver the first batch of Cybertruck EVs to their new owners. The company has also, finally announced pricing for the luxury electric truck. Prospective buyers can expect to pay anywhere from $60,990 to $100,000 MSRP (and potentially $11,000 less after rebates and tax credits). The company has launched an online configurator tool for those interested in placing an order of their own.      The event caps nearly half a decade of design and development that started in 2019 and which has been subject to intense hype, promotion and scrutiny throughout. Amazon now has its own AI image generator

Amazon has hopped on the same bandwagon on which many major tech companies have hitched a ride this year by debuting its own image generator. AWS customers can now check out a preview of Titan Image Generator on the Bedrock console . They can either enter a text prompt to create an image from scratch or upload an image and edit it. Amazon says the tool can produce large volumes of studio-quality, realistic images at low cost. It claims the AI can generate relevant images based on complex text prompts while ensuring object composition is accurate and that there are limited distortions. This, according to the company, helps with "reducing the generation of harmful content and mitigating the spread of misinformation." Those looking to edit an image can isolate areas in which they want to add or remove details. They can, for instance, replace the background or swap an object in a subject's hand. The AI can also extend an image's borders by adding artificial details,

How to remove music from your Spotify taste profile

Has another Spotify Wrapped come and gone where your top songs and artists were distorted by the ambient noise you listen to while you sleep or the tunes your kids like ? There's a fix for that. SEE ALSO: After a year of new AI features, Spotify Wrapped 2023 celebrates the 'real stuff' The streaming giant has the option for you to remove playlists from your "Taste Profile," which is how Spotify defines the music you like. When you exclude music from your Taste Profile, it won't impact what Spotify recommends to you as much. Additionally, songs and artists on playlists removed from your Taste Profile won't be in your top songs or artists on your Wrapped, but they will contribute to your total time listening. However, if you listen to the songs outside of the playlist, it will still be included in your Taste Profile. Once you remove a playlist, it will take 48 hours before it is actually withdrawn from your Taste Profile. Note that if you exclude a p

When does Spotify Wrapped's tracking period end?

Spotify Wrapped season is finally here and with it brings many questions — like how is it physically possible that you listened to "As It Was" by Harry Styles that many times in 2023? Just kidding. We get it. But the biggest question still looms large: When exactly does the Spotify Wrapped tracking period end? SEE ALSO: Spotify Wrapped 2023 is dropping soon. How to view yours when it releases. The internet's colloquial understanding was that Wrapped stopped tracking at the end of October, leaving November and December as safe months to listen to your guilty pleasures. (I'm looking at you, Glee soundtrack.) But Spotify busted that myth last year in a reply to a since-deleted tweet from pop culture updates account, Pop Crave, about Wrapped ending on Halloween. Spotify replied , "The only thing that we end on Halloween is eating candy corn. Stream (and snack) all through the year and we will see you in Wrapped season." Tweet may have been deleted Ho

Apple Music’s year-end Rewind is here to expose your listening habits

Apple Music’s full year-end Replay experience has arrived. Although elements of the personalized recap are available year-round (including a continually updating playlist), the company spruces up its web interface this time of year for a sleeker presentation as you reflect on your 2023 listening habits. Apple Music also announced its Artist of the Year (Taylor Swift, who you may have heard of) and subscribers’ top choices in various categories. If you listened to Apple Music this year, you can head to the service’s Replay 2023 website and log into your account to view a rundown of the music you enjoyed during the last 12 months. It lists your most-streamed artists, songs, albums, genres, playlists and stations. It also includes a highlight video summarizing your habits, which you can share with friends and family or on social channels. If you reach any milestones, like listening to 25,000 minutes of music, it will reveal exactly when you hit them. Apple says Replay 2023 will also t

The leasing program will be available to customers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington. “We chose these launch states based on many factors including where our customers are located and where leasing is most popular,” a Rivian spokesperson wrote in an email to CNBC .
