I test Kindles for a living. These are the only e-reader deals Id recommend shopping early.

A Kindle, Book, and page turning remote on a colorful background.

When the big shopping events like Prime Day and Black Friday come around, our sights are set on our favorite tech. It's often the only time when they're guaranteed to get a discount. My favorite gadgets? Kindles. It's part of my job to test e-readers, but outside of work hours, you'll still find me and my Kindle attached at the hip.

But the thing with Kindles is that they rarely go on sale. Sure, there's the occasional random discount throughout the year, but the best guaranteed price is almost always going to be during Prime Day or Black Friday. So as we look forward to Black Friday, which falls on Friday, Nov. 28, we're already hunting down the best Kindle deals.

Already, I've found quite a few decent deals, but none so far on new Kindle devices. Instead, Amazon is discounting like-new, certified refurbished e-readers from the latest generation of Kindles. Plus, I've found deals on some of my favorite Kindle accessories. Keep checking back, as I'll be adding the best Black Friday Kindle deals now through Cyber Monday.

Certified refurbished by Amazon.

Why we like it

The Kindle Paperwhite is the best Kindle. It has everything you want in an e-reader — adjustable brightness and warmth, a quick processor, and intuitive UX. It's the total package, and right now you can find a like-new version for $106.99. New and full-price, the Kindle Paperwhite is typically $159.99, and even refurbished versions are usually $143.99. These devices are certified refurbished by Amazon, so you know they're tested, reliable, and truly like-new. Amazon also has discounts on like-new Paperwhite Signature Editions and Scribes.

A remote page-turner for cozy nights

$15.99 at Amazon
$19.99 Save $4.00

Why we like it

I let the TikTok girlies convince me that I needed a remote control page turner and... they were right. This page turner works by gently tapping the screen of your Kindle when you click on the remote. Paired with a gooseneck stand, it's created the coziest possible setup so I can keep my hands warm under the blankets but still get to the next page in my book. I don't usually like recommending products from random Amazon brands, but the Datafy remote control page turner has worked great for me over the past few months. Ahead of Black Friday, it's just $15.99 — that's $4 off its $19.99 price tag.

Why we like it

If you want to use your remote control page turner, then you'll need a way to prop up your Kindle. I use this gooseneck stand by Magipea. It's super easy to use, able to clamp onto tables of any thickness. It holds Kindles securely, too, no budging if you move or bump into it. It's down to $16.12 ahead of Black Friday, saving you 46% off and $13.87.

I found plenty more Kindle stands on sale, including one that doubles as a snack tray.

Why we like them

My favorite Kindle case is one paired with a PopSockets phone grip. If you're using a grip on your phone, you should definitely be using one on your e-reader. A clear case is suitable for both the minimalists or the creatives who want to customize it themselves. Right now, you can grab each on sale, and while I had to hunt to find these savings, as we get closer to Black Friday, I expect savings on Kindle cases to explode.

Books for under $2

Ahead of Prime Day, get Kindle books for as low as $0.99.

Why we like it

Most of the time, I prefer not to buy books for my Kindle and instead borrow books through Libby. But if I do buy a Kindle book, it's usually because it's under $2. Amazon is always dropping prices on books, and you can often find prize-winning and bestselling titles for $2 or less. That's definitely the case right now, as you can find acclaimed books like Trust by Hernan Diaz or The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Instagram accidentally reinstated Pornhub’s banned account

After years of on-and-off temporary suspensions, Instagram permanently banned Pornhub’s account in September. Then, for a short period of time this weekend, the account was reinstated. By Tuesday, it was permanently banned again. “This was done in error,” an Instagram spokesperson told TechCrunch. “As we’ve said previously, we permanently disabled this Instagram account for repeatedly violating our policies.” Instagram’s content guidelines prohibit  nudity and sexual solicitation . A Pornhub spokesperson told TechCrunch, though, that they believe the adult streaming platform’s account did not violate any guidelines. Instagram has not commented on the exact reasoning for the ban, or which policies the account violated. It’s worrying from a moderation perspective if a permanently banned Instagram account can accidentally get switched back on. Pornhub told TechCrunch that its account even received a notice from Instagram, stating that its ban had been a mistake (that message itse...

California Gov. Newsom vetoes bill SB 1047 that aims to prevent AI disasters

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed bill SB 1047, which aims to prevent bad actors from using AI to cause "critical harm" to humans. The California state assembly passed the legislation by a margin of 41-9 on August 28, but several organizations including the Chamber of Commerce had urged Newsom to veto the bill . In his veto message on Sept. 29, Newsom said the bill is "well-intentioned" but "does not take into account whether an Al system is deployed in high-risk environments, involves critical decision-making or the use of sensitive data. Instead, the bill applies stringent standards to even the most basic functions - so long as a large system deploys it."  SB 1047 would have made the developers of AI models liable for adopting safety protocols that would stop catastrophic uses of their technology. That includes preventive measures such as testing and outside risk assessment, as well as an "emergency stop" that would completely shut down...

Watch Aidy Bryant *completely* lose it as 'SNL' roasts political pundits

On Saturday Night Live , there are breaks and then there's whatever happened here. The Season 45 premiere featured a sketch that was meant to expose the empty noisemaking of political punditry on TV. But part of the joke involved a series of quick costume changes, and some weirdness during one of those switches led to a complete and total breakdown. Aidy Bryant, the segment's host, couldn't take it. She manages to keep it together until what appears to be an accidental wide shot exposes some of the magic as we see a woman who's probably a member of the SNL wardrobe crew fiddling with Aidy's costume.
